„Standards as an obligation“
ODETTE (Organization for data exchange by Tele transmission in Europe) is an organisation, which was formed by the automotive industry for the automotive industry. The members of ODETTE are the National Automotive Federation, who in turn represent the European motor manufacturers and suppliers.
ODETTE sets standards for electronic communications and logistics processes that link together more than 4000 companies in the European motor industry with their global partners The headquarters is in Great Britian. ODETTE International is a non-for-profit-organisation. With EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) ODETTE was one of the first organisations, which standardised a continuous data flow from and to the automotive manufacturer.
Under the roof of ODETTE the first European Standard for user administration in B2B Internet portals was created. The basis for this standard is the harmonisation of user data on B2B portals. It specifies the data elements, the necessary technical interfaces and a method for handling automatic transfer files. Time-consuming procedures such as identification of new users, updating of personal data and access rights, including the deletion of user accounts, will be much easier in future thanks to the new harmonised processes. Up to now, every user has had to be registered manually in a slightly different way in every customer portal. This has resulted in a high administrative workload, low transparency and all the risks associated with complex structures.
The use of this standard and the supporting tools is not restricted to the automotive industry. An exchange to other industry sectors such as the chemical and pharmaceutical has already started.
Signed declaration of the European Automotive Organisation
“ODETTE UAM Standard came first to the attention of Odette after open4business and ZF Friedrichshafen had introduced the
User Access Manager in a pilot project between BMW and ZF Friedrichshafen. Only thereafter it became the “ODETTE UAM Standard” and was recommended to the participating companies”, says Michael de Stefano, Managing Director of open4business.
