The Odette, in its role as the European Consortium for the automobile industry, has the goal, to standardize the electronic data exchange for e-business communications as well as the exchange of development data and logistics. Thereby more then 4000 European automobile companies and suppliers can be interlinked.
The now existing ODETTE UAM Standard was introduced with a pilot project between BMW and ZF developed by open4business. "Only because of the development by open4business together with ZF Friedrichshafen has the Odette UAM Standard been introduced to the ODETTE and was later recommended as ODETTE standard," says Michael De Stefano, CEO.
UAM defines the content and the structure of a user profile and of the XML-messages for an automated data transfer (identical with SPML: Service Provisioning Markup Language and SAML: Security Assertion Markup Language). The standard also defines how the process for the user is set up, changed and disabled.
That way, business partners are able to implement an interface accordingly.
A standard process and a data format is established, which faciliates standardized interfaces and a unobstructed workflow within as well as outside the company.
A user profile has only to be created once. If he changes his name or department there is also just one update necessary, before the profile is sent out to all portals involved.
Time-consuming procedures like user creation, upating user data and access rights as well as the deletion of user accounts will become much easier in the future thanks to the harmonized processes.
Estimates are, that thanks to the standardization and automization, the processes will become between 30 an 60 percent more efficient.
Periodic updates and the elimination of typing errors will furthermore reduce outdated data and increase security of non-authorized accounts.
